Named after the fellow who was unfortunately taken out on it. Not really sure where it's going to go. It was very bent, but too old to be a stat, so it came to me as a clear title..

I really do like this thing. Although now it just sits forlornly in the factory getting covered in dust. Maybe I'll get enthusiastic one day and wash it. I think that I should be turning it over regularly, but it's not run for 8 years, so has the damage been done already? Poor baby. I can remember riding home from work and the sound it made running up the Toorak Road off ramp past all the cars turning left knocking it down gears with a blip on each change. Was very cool indeed.

Back on the road. It was the most complete bike I had eligible for club rego. What better excuse for endeavouring upon a farce of typical proportions.

The 400SS

I bought this 400SS (genuine 93 model Australian delivery! Woo hoo huh.) after seeing it in Ebay for what was possibly an good price. As ever, good was too good to be true. Badly repaired and rusted out fuel tank, badly repainted side panels, lots of km (83,000 of the bastards), etc. You know, the usual. Purchased in October 2012, as of now (Jan 2014) I've nearly finished a major service. The cam timing is done with some of the Madasl adjustable pullies that have been drilled in 4 different settings for easy dyno testing. And I have some 900 headers to try a 40mm dual exhaust set up on it (ala M400). Not a great deal of progress for 15 months, so it's taking on a long term feel. There's an F1 endurance style seat base (more taper at the rear) and front fairing sitting around, which will require frame mods to fit. It's a bit of a mental sticking point as this time. But hey, it's not like I can devalue it much more.

And off to a new home May 2021. Was a fun little bike to ride. Slow, but always fun.

In commuter trim! Minne has a name (and is female) as she nominally belongs to Hunnybunny, not me.

Minnie got a fair make over, lots of new stuff. Was a great bike in this form, and one I loved riding.

This photo, taken by Russ Murray in the Moto One showroom, is one of my favourites. Don't really know why, I just like it. One of the things I liked about this bike (and also the Sport 1100i and BMW's now I look at them) was the minimal number of colours - orange, silver and black.

The project that followed the Sport 1100i, it went a touch better and handled amazingly with an Ohlins front shock, but could never look or sound as good.

A bike I didn't spend much time on over the year and a half I owned it, and my second in a two bike collection of BMW colours or schemes thereof with poor resale.

How it looked the rainy night someone came to take it away. Painted all black when I bought it, at some point later I realised i could rub the black off and have much of the original colour scheme underneath. Although the main fairing was originally from a red KR1 I think, and definitely badly repaired more than once, so it stayed black. And the tail panel shown was bought to replace the one I smashed the only time I crashed it and the last time I rode it at a Sandown track day. A sensational little bike, holed pistons and frequently failing stator windings aside. The first bike I rode on a race track and the first bike I had my knee down on. And a great commuter too I found. It's sometimes nice to have a bike that won't wheelie past the city speed limit in first gear.
